Pegg Roberts                         Immigration

Pegg Roberts, Executive Director of Freedom House will speak on Immigration, Citizenship, and Asylum.

Freedom House is a temporary shelter for refugees who are seeking asylum in the U.S. and Canada. The shelter is home to individuals and families who come from 12 or more countries and who speak as many languages. They represent various cultures and religious traditions.

Explorathon

“Expanding Horizons for Girls in Science and Mathematics” encourages girls to consider STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers.  Hands-on workshops provide opportunities for students to explore opportunities in these fields.  Explorathon is a joint project of AAUW and the Cranbrook Institute of Science. Nettie Seabrooks                   The New DIA

Nettie Seabrooks, Chief Operating Officer of the Detroit Institute of Arts,  will give us an overview of the “new” museum. Following eight years of extensive renovations, the DIA has brought one of the nation’s best collections back to life in new and exciting ways.  With extensive prior experience in business and government, Ms. Seabrooks can relate the museum to our world today.

The annual meeting with election of officers will also be held.

Marcia Gershenson, Oakland County Commissioner District #17, and Associate Director for Advocacy, Uof M Center for Education of Women will discuss the need for women to have a stronger voice in local government. She created the Women’s Commission of Oakland County.
