Five areas of interest form the broad framework
of AAUW's program. Following is a brief summary of each continuing
interest area which underscores AAUW's mission of promoting equity
and education for all women and girls.
PUBLIC POLICY - Informs members of
pertinent issues and bills at the federal, state and local levels;
develops branch legislative concerns and actions; and supports
organizations having similar legislative goals.
DIVERSITY - Continues to promote and
expand diversity and social justice initiatives in all aspects of
AAUW and help all members further diversity throughout the community
through cultural sensitivity, understanding, training and education.
EDUCATION EQUITY - Seeks improvement
in the quality and availability of education from early childhood
through adult years with special concern for women; promotes
adequate financial support; advocates more and better libraries and
learning centers; and encourages individual educational growth and
development.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS - Concerned with
the understanding of foreign policy, peace initiatives, distribution
of wealth and resources, and the political implications; balance of
power and world trade; and our roles in international give and take.
SOCIAL ACTION - The different ways we
live, our values, our expressions of what we feel, perceive, and
think in aesthetic and scientific terms characterize the substance
of this group. Serves to encourage study, creative thinking, new
program ideas, and action options on current social issues.
