We have just returned from a
terrific convention in St. Louis (June 26-28). It was probably the best
run and organized AAUW Convention ever. A major highlight
of the convention was the address by Lilly Ledbetter.
In short, the new By Laws were
passed, but the membership requirement was retained. There
was a new category of Partner Members added – hoping to
attract organizations like Greg Mortenson’s Central Asian
Institute. The rest of the proposed Bylaws were kept pretty
intact. Another significant change is that Every Member
will have a vote on all AAUW proposals – doing away with the
delegate system. You will be hearing much more about the
new opportunities on the website and other exciting ideas
for programming, and membership enhancement.
We had six members of our
Branch in attendance. Of course, Coco was there, but, as
parliamentarian was pretty neutral. She had her hands full
keeping all of us (Just shy of 1,000 attendees!) in line.
Charlotte Mahrt, Carolyn Burdi, Carol Pyke, Jean Walker and
I made up the rest of our team. Michigan had 47 attendees
in all. We made sure that Michigan’s concerns were heard.
