Birmingham Branch Vision
The Birmingham Branch will be a highly visible,
diverse organization, recognized especially for its commitment to
equity for women and girls, to lifelong education and to the
improvement of the status of women.
In principle and practice, AAUW values and
seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full
participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race,
creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin or disability.
Membership is open to all graduates who hold an
Associate Degree or equivalent, or a Baccaleaurate Degree or higher
from any nationally accredited institution or from any institution
recognized by the International Federation of University Women (IFUW).
The Birmingham Branch is one of 1300 local
units of the American Association of University Women. AAUW promotes
education and equity for all women and girls through groundbreaking
research; fellowships and grants for outstanding women scholars;
voter education; community action projects; educational resources;
grassroots activism; and assistance for women seeking legal support
to fight sex discrimination on campus. Funds for these efforts come
through contributions to the Educational Foundation. Our local
branch supports scholarships to local colleges and also supports
many community projects.
